FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims, Arrest Ransom Couriers in Katsina
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 14 kidnapped victims and arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers in Katsina State.
The troops also recovered AK-47 rifles in separate operations across Katsina and Kaduna states, while intercepting ₦2.7 million suspected ransom being transported to a terrorist kingpin.
A statement signed by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Friday.
The operation in Katsina was carried out by troops of Sector 2 on September 24 and 25, 2026, following credible intelligence on terrorist activities in Faskari Local Government Area.
On September 24, the troops intercepted three suspects travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects were allegedly transporting ₦2.7 million suspected ransom and three mobile phones for onward delivery to a terrorist kingpin through intermediaries.
The suspects, motorcycle, cash and phones were subsequently taken into military custody for further investigation.

The following day, troops acting on credible intelligence ambushed terrorists operating in the area, forcing them to flee. An AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle were recovered during the operation.
Also on September 25, troops on routine patrol intercepted and rescued 14 kidnapped victims comprising 12 males and two females.
The victims were reportedly abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages in Faskari Local Government Area and abandoned by their captors after the terrorists sighted advancing troops.
The rescued victims were handed over to the Faskari Local Government authorities for further care and necessary action.
In a related operation in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 acted on credible intelligence on September 23 and engaged terrorists moving through the bushes around Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area.
The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier, a military jungle hat and other items following the encounter.
During a separate clearance operation at Awom village in Kachia LGA, troops also arrested a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was found with a fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their operations and urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security forces to support ongoing efforts against terrorism and criminal activities in the North-West.
