Troops foil IPOB/ESN ambush, IED attacks in Enugu, arrest suspect with 25 cartridges in Abia
Troops conducting security operations in Enugu and Abia states have foiled attacks by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN), while arresting a suspected hoodlum and recovering 25 cartridges in a separate operation.
In Enugu State, joint troops of Sector 1, comprising personnel of the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Rear), 197 Special Forces Battalion, 15 Brigade and the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, foiled an ambush and improvised explosive device attacks during an offensive operation in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 4am on September 28, 2026, around Imezi-Owa and Abunozu communities, as well as the Afor-Ugwu/Ajali forest areas of the council.
The troops, operating in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services, local informants and the Air Component of Operation UDO KA, engaged suspected IPOB/ESN fighters near Ugbene Bridge.

The offensive action forced the suspected fighters to flee the area, while troops subsequently embarked on an exploitation of the operational environment.
During the operation, the troops encountered command-detonated improvised explosive devices and attempted ambushes, which they successfully neutralised, enabling them to maintain control of the area.
Security forces are continuing operations in the affected communities and forest corridors to prevent the fleeing suspects from regrouping and to further clear the area of threats.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Abia State, troops of 144 Battalion (Rear), operating under Operation CRUSH, arrested a suspected hoodlum and recovered 25 cartridges in Obingwa Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended at about 5:30pm on September 28 at Ihere Market following an operation by troops deployed from Akirika Obu.
The 25 cartridges were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police at the Eastern Ngwa Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and appropriate action.
