Navy Busts Crude Oil Storage Site, Uncovers 40,000 Litres in Delta
The Nigerian Navy has uncovered about 40,000 litres of substance suspected to be crude oil stored in a large dugout reservoir in the Oteghele area of Delta State.
The discovery was made on Wednesday by Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected crude oil theft and related activities in the area.
A statement by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the operation was conducted under Operation Delta Sentinel.

He said the Navy recovered the suspected crude oil and handled the dugout reservoir in accordance with established procedures.
The latest discovery follows a similar operation in the Oteghele area on September 21, when NNS DELTA uncovered about 30,000 litres of substance suspected to be crude oil.
The Navy said the repeated discoveries reflected its continued efforts to disrupt illicit crude oil storage and deny criminal operators access to the nation’s petroleum resources.
It added that intelligence-led operations would be sustained across its Area of Operations to combat crude oil theft and protect critical petroleum infrastructure and resources.
