Troops Foil Lakurawa Assault on Kebbi Military Base, Recover 17 Motorcycles, Weapons
Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled an attack by fighters of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Maiyama in Kebbi State.
Security sources disclosed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, when a large group of terrorists, reportedly riding more than 100 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, attempted to overrun the military base.
The attackers were said to have deployed General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades during the assault.
However, the troops held their positions and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw into the surrounding terrain.

Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
During a subsequent exploitation and pursuit operation, the troops recovered 17 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing fighters.
The troops also recovered a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and Baofeng communication radios allegedly used by the attackers.
Security forces have retained control of the area, while aggressive patrols and dominance operations are continuing to track the fleeing members of the group.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt the activities of armed groups, restrict their freedom of movement and prevent them from establishing operational footholds in communities across the region.
