Customs Intercepts 30 Wraps of Canadian Loud from S’African Passenger
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area I Command, has intercepted 30 wraps of Canadian Loud, a potent cannabis strain, from a female passenger arriving in Nigeria from South Africa.
The seized substance was subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, as part of efforts to curb the smuggling of illicit drugs into the country.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I, Barilule Aanee, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller.
Speaking during the handover, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, said combating illicit drug trafficking was critical to protecting public health and safety, particularly among young people.

She warned that substance abuse posed serious risks to mental health, judgment and productivity, with consequences extending beyond individual users to families and communities.
Atuluku commended the officers involved in the interception and acknowledged the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the NCS management in strengthening anti-smuggling operations.
She assured that the Command would sustain efforts to intercept illicit substances and ensure that individuals involved in their trafficking were brought to justice.
In his remarks, the Assistant Commander General of Narcotics at the NDLEA, Nathaniel Negedu, commended the Customs Service for the interception and handover, describing inter-agency cooperation as essential to combating drug trafficking.
Negedu urged both agencies to sustain their collaboration, noting that illicit drug trafficking remained a serious threat to public safety and societal well-being.
The handover underscores ongoing collaboration between the NCS and the NDLEA to prevent illicit drugs from entering the country and strengthen enforcement against drug trafficking.
