Tinubu Approves Lifetime Salary for Retired Immigration CGs, DCGs — Tunji-Ojo
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved lifetime salaries for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service as part of efforts to improve the welfare of serving and retired personnel.
Tunji-Ojo disclosed this on Friday during the closing ceremony of the Specialised Border Control and Immigration Management System (BCIMS) training at the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja.
The minister commended the President for addressing promotion backlogs across services under the Ministry of Interior, stating that at least 50,000 personnel had received promotions within three years.
According to him, the administration has also expanded recruitment, with no fewer than 40,000 personnel recruited in a single exercise.
He further praised Tinubu for approving salary increases, hazard allowances and peculiar allowances for personnel under the ministry.

Tunji-Ojo said the welfare of retired immigration officers had also improved under the current administration, noting that former Comptrollers-General previously received pensions of about ₦130,000.
He said the President subsequently approved lifetime salaries for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General, describing the decision as a significant intervention in their welfare.
The minister urged personnel of the ministry’s services to reciprocate the administration’s support by performing their duties diligently and improving service delivery to Nigerians.
“All he asks from us in the service is to do our jobs well and make Nigerians happy. Everything we have asked of him, he has done. This is the least we can do,” he said.
Tunji-Ojo also described Tinubu as a leader focused on long-term national development, arguing that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was designed to build institutions capable of functioning effectively beyond the tenure of the current government.
According to the minister, the President recognises that political office is temporary, while institutions endure and their impact should benefit future generations.
He said the administration’s policies were intended to lay a foundation for sustained national prosperity rather than focus solely on immediate gains.
