NUJ, Nigerian Army Strengthen Media-Military Collaboration to Tackle Insecurity in Kaduna
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, and the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening media-military collaboration to address security challenges, promote public confidence and consolidate peace across Kaduna State and the North-West.
The commitment followed a courtesy visit by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, to the leadership of the NUJ Kaduna State Council.
Abdullahi, who recently assumed duty as the Division’s Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, said the visit was part of efforts to deepen professional engagement, strengthen mutual understanding and establish effective communication channels between the military and journalists.
He described the media as a critical stakeholder in national security, stressing that responsible journalism and timely dissemination of credible information were essential to sustaining peace and strengthening public trust in security institutions.
According to him, although his area of responsibility covers Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states, Kaduna remains the host state of the Division, making sustained engagement with journalists in the state particularly important.

The Army spokesperson emphasised that the relationship between security agencies and the media should extend beyond reporting military operations to promoting public awareness, countering misinformation and encouraging citizens to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
He noted that journalists play an important role in communicating the activities of security agencies, informing the public about security developments and educating communities on their responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property.
“The importance of the media is very critical in both war and peacetime. Now that we are in a period of relative peace, the media is very important because it is the media that consolidates the gains achieved by other sectors,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that effective communication could help bridge information gaps between security institutions and the public, particularly in communities affected by insecurity.
The colonel stressed the need for continuous engagement between military public relations officers and media professionals to ensure that security-related information is communicated accurately and responsibly.
He maintained that strengthening professional relationships with journalists would contribute to public understanding of military operations and support efforts to consolidate peace across the Division’s area of responsibility.
The visit underscored the importance of sustained cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the media in addressing security challenges, improving information sharing and promoting responsible reporting in Kaduna State and the wider North-West.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining cordial relations and strengthening professional collaboration in support of peace, security and national stability.
