Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello has reiterated his administration’s commitment to provide necessary support to security agencies operating in the state, to enable them carry out their constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property.
He stated during a visit to the Police Training School, Minna, where he inspected the poor infrastructure in the school.
“We have to give security number one priority because without security nothing will work”, stressing that, “the state government must support them (security agencies) with whatever they need to carryout their primary assignment of protecting and securing lives and property”.
The governor who was taken aback by the dilapidation of infrastructure at the Police Training School, expressed concern over the bad shape of the 39 year old training facility and promised to effect the rehabilitation of the school to enable it deliver its mandate.
“The state government will support the Nigerian Police to correct some of these gaps we saw today. The infrastructure needs a serious renovation. Despite of our financial predicament, I cannot allow some of the structures I saw today remain the way they are. The state government will support and partner with the police to rectify some of these gaps.
“The hostels are bad, the offices are bad. Almost everything is bad. I have seen only few new structures that are manageable”.
The Governor then directed the Ministry of Water Resources to provide the school with a motorised overhead tank to be installed in the school to allow the recruits access to pipe born water.
The Niger state Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor who conducted the Governor round the school expressed joy over the visit and the resolve of the state government to partner and support the Police.
