You Must Be Ruthless in Defeating Terrorists – CDS Charges Commanders

The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa, has charged commanders of Joint Task Force of the Armed Forces to spare no terrorists, bandits, or other criminals in the country.

Musa gave the charge during his closing remarks at the Joint Task Force Commanders Conference on Saturday at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

He said the security landscape is ever-evolving, and the Armed Forces must continuously assess and improve their strategies, tactics, and capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats.

General Musa also emphasised the need for innovation and adaptability, urging commanders to encourage and empower their personnel to think creatively, to challenge conventional wisdom, and to embrace change as they strive for continuous improvement.

His words: “As commanders, it is imperative that we foster a culture of cooperation, collaboration, and synergy among our forces. By breaking down barriers, sharing resources, and leveraging each others’ strengths, we can maximise our collective impact and achieve our shared objectives.

“Let us bring this spirit of jointness back to our respective task forces and integrate it into our daily operations. Similarly, the need to reform the structure of the various operations was keenly noted and will be considered.”

He also encouraged them to prioritise the welfare and professional development of personnel.

The CDS said that the armed forces’ greatest asset is its human capital, and it is through their dedication, expertise, and resilience that they achieve success on the battlefield.

Musa also urged commanders to build and maintain strong relationships with the communities they serve, saying that the trust and support of the local population are critical in their efforts to counter insurgency, terrorism, and other security challenges.

He also acknowledged the invaluable support the armed forces receive from their international partners, saying that the challenges they face are not confined within their borders, and it is through strong partnerships and collaboration that they can effectively address them.

He thanked the international allies for their unwavering solidarity and assistance, and urged them to continue to strengthen these relationships, explore opportunities for joint exercises and capacity building, and learn from the experiences of their global counterparts.

He urged the commanders to maintain open lines of communication and collaboration beyond the conference, strengthen the bonds of camaraderie and friendship that have been formed, and use the momentum generated to drive positive change and improve the effectiveness of their joint operations.

Musa said that their mission is not only to protect the nation’s security but also to safeguard the values, freedoms, and aspirations of their fellow countrymen.

According to him, “Remember, our mission is not only to protect our nation’s security but also to safeguard the values, freedoms, and aspirations of our fellow countrymen. We bear a tremendous responsibility, but we are not alone in this endeavor. We have the support and trust of the Nigerian people, and we must honour that trust by upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights.”
