Kukasheka Tasks Army on Crisis Communication Programme for Effective Security Operations
A former spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Usman Sani Kukasheka (rtd), has recommended some effective ways to boost the combat operations which the army troops are currently prosecuting, across the country.
Kukasheka’s suggestions were revealed when he spoke on: The Role and Importance of Crisis Communication During Internal Security Operations in Nigeria,” at a media workshop for personnel of the Directorate of Army Public Relations and the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, NASPRI, in Abuja.
According to Gen. Kukasheka, there is the need for the army to develop a comprehensive crisis communication training programme at NASPRI, focusing on internal security operations, in addition to its Media Operations Course.

He said: “The programme should include realistic scenarios covering message development, media interactions, and social media engagement to ensure personnel are well-prepared for effective responses under pressure”.
Kukasheka also emphasized the need for the army to continue embracing modern communication technologies, leveraging social media platforms, official websites, and mobile apps for real-time crisis updates.
“Incorporating multimedia elements such as videos and infographics to enhance transparency, countering misinformation during internal security operations is equally imperative.
“The DAPR should strengthen collaboration with media outlets through regular engagement, press briefings, and exclusive information access within operational security limits.
“The Nigerian Army should persist in implementing proactive community outreach programmes, engaging host communities through town hall meetings, humanitarian activities and educational campaigns,” he said.
