Adeniyi Tasks Customs Senior Officers on Achieving 2024 Budget Revenue Target

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has urged the recently-promoted senior customs personnel to diligently work towards achieving the ambitious revenue projection of 5.1 trillion naira set in the 2024 budget.

He gave the charge on Thursday while decorating some senior officers at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

CGC Adeniyi emphasized their critical role in meeting the federal government’s revenue targets, essential for the country’s fiscal plans.

He stressed the need for the new NCS senior officers to show dedication, render efficient service, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

“The success of our service and the country’s fiscal stability hinge upon your commitment and efficiency. Your responsibilities in securing revenue and curbing illicit trade activities across the nation’s border,” CGC Adeniyi stated.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, the Customs Chief pledged his support and resources to aid the officers in their duties, underscoring the collective effort required to achieve the set revenue goals.

His word, “The promotions were driven solely by merit. Those selected all have the responsibility to generate more revenue for the country, towards the 5.1 trillion target.

“Last year, we generated N3.1 trillion, and we believe what we’ve done today will further empower our personnel to do their best and meet our expectations. We’re also looking at the security aspect, deploying innovative technology at our borders to ensure a secure life for all.

“Regarding the selection process, promotions are a benchmark to enhance performance and a crucial aspect of our service’s welfare programs. This exercise serves as both motivation and improves officer well-being. We thank God for the high level of compliance to the exercise’s rules by the officers.

“Those who weren’t promoted can be confident that the process was transparent, and those who earned promotion truly deserve it.”

Adeniyi reaffirmed the Service’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and enhancing trade facilitation while maintaining stringent measures to combat smuggling and other illicit activities.
