Boko Haram: Bajoga Satellite Prison Reopens 4 Year After Closure

The Controller General of Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) Jafaru Ahmed has directed the immediate reopening of Bajoga satellite prison in Gombe State Command.

The prison was closed down on 4 November 2014 following an insurgent attack in the town.

During the attack when some public buildings, financial institutions and security posts were touched, the Prison staff had fortified the prison and successfully evacuated all inmates to Gombe and Billiri prisons.

With improved security in the area, the reopening of the satellite prison  followed appeals from Funakaye local Government council and the traditional institutions in the state.

The State Controller Ahmadu Adamu while receiving the Zonal coordinator Zone C Assistant Controller General of prisons Bala Muhammad Zuru who was on assessment tour of the facilities in the prison, commended the Controller General of prisons for reopening the satellite saying its timely and would facilitate the decongestion of other prisons and ease the movement of  inmates to courts within axis.

As at the time of filing in this report staff and inmates have been deployed to the prison which is now fully operational.

In a related development the Command has taken delivery of free uniforms and accoutrements for subordinate staff (non commissioned officers) both conventional and armed squad personnels and consignment of drugs, uniforms beddings and other consumable items for inmates use.

The state Controller while distributing the said items lauded the efforts of the present administration under Jafaru Ahmed for giving the service a new look saying to whom much is given much is expected, calling on staff to reciprocate the gesture by discharging their duties diligently.
