The forum chairman, Muhammad Dahiru Sa’ad said the gesture was part of the charity programmes slated to mark the silver jubilee celebration of the forum. He said the beneficiary students were drawn from the list of those whose academic pursuits were truncated by financial inabilities.
“Even though we cannot payback what has been offered to us when we were students, but at least with this little, we hope to raise a lot so that those in desperation can be relieved.”
Responding, the Vice-chancellor of the university, Yahuza Bello, expressed gratitude to the 1992 set for remembering their academic base at the time such a gesture was needed the most.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Sagir Abbas, the VC described the effort as the first of its kind to be received by the university.
He said: “Let me gladly give you this tiding that this you are offering today is the first of its kind in the history of Bayero University. Of course we have a lot of philanthropists who donate intermittently, but to have an Alumni coming in group to donate like this, it has never happened but now. So I congratulate you for breaking the good record and I hope many, many of graduated sets like you would emulate this gesture.”
