Grazing lands: Don’t listen to divisive comments, Miyetti-Allah tells SE Governors
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has urged Governors of the South East region to disregard submission by an international nongovernmental organization of not allocating grazing lands to herdsmen in their states.
The apex Fulani sociocultural organization expressed concern over recent remarks made by The International Group for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, which called for Southeast state Governors to refrain from allocating land for herders’ grazing and trailer parks.
But, in a bid to address rising ethnic tensions and combat hate speech, MACBAN said the comments will only increase the ethnic tension in the country and ought not to have come from a so called international NGO.
According to a statement by MACBAN National Secretary, Bello Aliyu Gotomo in Saturday, MACBAN, interpreted the group’s submission as “laden with ethnic hate” and detrimental to the country’s unity.

He explained that, “In an era when Nigerians are striving for a common front, the organization emphasized the need to bridge divides and promote a progressive nation.
“We recognize the industrious nature of the Igbo people. Their successes across the globe, beyond their traditional homeland, underscore their essential role in the livestock value chain within the Southeast geopolitical zone.”
The organization called on Southeast state Governors to dismiss hate statements and focus on accommodating diverse communities. MACBAN emphasized that fostering understanding and cooperation is crucial for a harmonious society.
MACBAN also urged all tiers of government to address security challenges effectively, adding that criminals, regardless of their background, pose significant burdens on society and called for robust efforts to track them down.
“No group(s) should be made to suffer blanket demonization because of criminal activities of some persons traceable to the group(s).
We are optimistic that the Nigeria every patriotic Nigerian envisions materialises to our collective good,” MACBAN added.
