Buhari Declines Assent to Nigerian Peace Corps Bill
President Mohammadu Buhari today declined assent of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill recently passed by the National Assembly.
In a Correspondence to the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara the President in pursuant to section 58(4) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, conveys his decision to decline assent to the bill.

Among the reasons given by the President to decline the bill is security concerns regarding the proposed Nigerian Peace Corps which is being authorized to undertake activities currently being performed by extant security and law enforcement agencies.
Also given as reason for his decision to decline assent of the bill is the financial implications of funding the establishment and operations of the proposed Nigerian Peace Corps, given the scarce financial resources which may pose serious challenge to the Government.
