IGP Charges Police Legal Officers to Protect Citizens’ Rights, Due Process
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in line with his administration’s policy to bequeath to Nigerians a Police Force which is rule of law compliant, convened a significant meeting with police legal officers at the Force Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday 9th May, 2024, where he underscored the paramount importance of service delivery and upholding the rule of law within the Nigeria Police Force.
During the gathering, the IGP reiterated the critical role of police legal prosecutors and advisors in ensuring adherence to legal procedures, ethical standards, and human rights principles in all policing operations.

He emphasized the need for continuous training and capacity-building initiatives to enhance the legal proficiency of police personnel across all levels.
Furthermore, the IGP emphasized the importance of nurturing a system of professionalism, accountability, and transparency within the Nigeria Police Force.
He highlighted the significance of aligning police actions with constitutional provisions, statutory regulations, and international conventions to maintain public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police.
The Inspector General of Police urged all police legal officers to remain vigilant in safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring due process in all aspects of policing activities.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between legal advisors and operational units to achieve operational effectiveness while respecting human rights and the rule of law.
