2024 Hajj: NAHCON Commences Airlift as   427 Pilgrims Leave Kebbi

The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) has begun the airlift of Muslim pilgrims from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj season.

The inaugural flight, operated by FlyNas, departed from Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 4:54 pm Nigerian time. The flight carried 417 pilgrims from Kebbi State and seven officials.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Sa’ad Abubakar, graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of the pilgrimage.

Shettima commended the NAHCON leadership, board members, and staff for their sacrifices and efforts in ensuring a successful Hajj season. He also disclosed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu supported this year’s pilgrimage with N90 billion.

The Vice President urged pilgrims to exhibit good conduct, respect authorities, and pray for the country’s peace and progress, particularly an end to insecurity in some regions. He acknowledged the Kebbi State Governor’s efforts in upgrading the airport facilities.

NAHCON Chairman, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, described the occasion as a significant milestone, highlighting the commission’s achievements, including securing accommodation in Mina, successful visa issuance, and reduced Hajj fare. He advised pilgrims to source additional Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA) individually if needed.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Sa’ad Abubakar III, thanked the federal government for bringing hope to pilgrims amidst exchange rate challenges. He encouraged pilgrims to pray positively for the government and leaders, avoiding negative prayers that may have adverse effects.

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, commended the Hajj managers for organizing the pilgrimage to enable pilgrims to worship without distractions.

This marks the beginning of the 2024 Hajj season, with NAHCON committed to ensuring a successful and well-organized pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.

Meanwhile, the Air Peace and Max Air flights scheduled to depart Abuja with FCT and Nasarawa state pilgrims were rescheduled  to later hours due to delay in obtaining the pilgrims’ BTAs.
