NAHCON Outlines Medical Plans for 2025 Hajj
By Muhammad Ahmad Musa

In a move to enhance the medical services provided to Nigerian pilgrims during the 2025 Hajj, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has undertaken a comprehensive review of the existing healthcare facilities and operations.

Leading the charge is Professor Abubakar A. Yagawal, the NAHCON Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services (PRSILS), who recently headed a Medical Committee on an oversight visit to the two approved clinics in Makkah.

The fact-finding mission aimed to identify the challenges and bottlenecks in the current health service delivery, with the ultimate goal of delivering the most standard medical system to Nigerian pilgrims during the upcoming Hajj.

Prior to the visit, the committee convened in the Commissioner’s office and developed a detailed Supervisory Checklist. This checklist covered a wide range of areas, including general environmental sanitation, consulting rooms, staff allocation, infection prevention procedures, electronic medical record (EMR) system efficiency, patient admission and referral processes, drug dispensing methods, medical consumables record-keeping, availability of health education materials, and the readiness of required equipment in ambulances.

“The primary objective of this tour is to uncover the reality on the ground and respond to the needs of the medical team, in order to take it to the next level of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness,” said Dr. Sa’ed Dumbulwa, the Board member representing the Federal Ministry of Health.

NAHCON Chairman/CEO had earlier mandated the committee with this assignment, underscoring the importance of digging out the issues and applying viable solutions to ensure an effective pilgrimage experience for Nigerian pilgrims, who deserve the best.

The interactive session between the various segments of the Medical Team was productive, with all participants focused on implementing positive changes to deliver sustainable medical services to the Guests of Allah.

“We want to have the most standard medical system delivered to the Nigerian 2025 Hajj Pilgrims, while in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” emphasized Professor Yagawal, the PRSILS Commissioner.

The comprehensive review and planning undertaken by NAHCON’s Medical Committee are aimed at ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims receive the highest quality of healthcare during the 2025 Hajj, in line with the Commission’s commitment to providing a seamless and enjoyable pilgrimage experience.
