Relief Foundation Provides Legal Services to 1000 Victims of Terrorism
Relief Foundation, a civil society organisation has provided legal services to various victims of abuses and terrorism in North-East.
Hajiya Rabi Ibrahim, the Founder of the foundation, disclosed this when she paid a curtessy call to Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Umar Ibn-Garbai, at his palace in Maiduguri.
Ibrahim who decried the high rate of domestic abuses on children and women in the country, said the foundation was working toward enhancing civic protection through legal representation to victims.
She said the foundation had provided legal support to more than 1,000 victims of various abuses ranging rape, defilement, domestic violence and sadomy within the last two years.
“We have also empowered more than 3,000 women mostly Internally Displaced Persons in Kaduna under various skills acquisition and vocational training of the foundations. And we also provided token for them to enabled them stand on thier own.
“In addition, We are also currently enrolled about 66 children among IDPs and are currently studying in HIMS nursery and Primary School in Kaduna. The school was initially the school was meant for orphans alone but now it is for orphans and IDPs,”she said.
She explained that the foundation had established offices across the 36 states with a view to strengthened justice for the less privilages.
“As you see us here in Borno to seek the blessing of the Shehu and to unvail our new office here in Maiduguri. That was how we were in Brining Kebbi Last week. We want to make sure we have our foundation in every state so that we can touch the lives and assist the less privilage. Because our motor is “Voice of the Voiceless”
“So we are here to seek the cooperation of the Shehu and we want to be our grand patrone here in Borno as most of the people we are supporting are supporting are from  Bama, Gwoza and Konduga.
“They are still living in Kaduna. We are expecting that after the reconstruction of thier homes they are coming back to thier ancestral home. So we are here to appeal for his support to enabled us achieved our aims and objectives,”she said.
In his response, The Shehu, Alhaji Umar Ibn-Garbai, commended the foundation for supporting the less privilage and people that had lost thier means of livelihood as the result of Boko Haram.
The Shehu said that it was on record that the NGO was the first to established a center for the support of orphans, widows and IDPs.
He said that the council would give all it support to enabled the foundation carry out its humaniterian activities in the state.
“We have wealthy individuals in Borno, but you dont here them coming up with such innitiative. You only here that our people are been taken to Sokoto and Plateau but you dont here them establsihing poverty allieviation centers in the state.
“I want to thank you and I will raise the issue in our next council meeting, and i want to assure you of our immense support in all your programs designed to amiolorate the surffering of our people,”Shehu said.
