Nigerian Navy Secures 100 Acres in Ogun for Dockyard, Base Establishment

The Nigerian Navy has secured 100 acres of land from the Ogun State government for the establishment of a Naval Dockyard and Base in the state.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, received the land proposal from Ogun State Governor, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, in Abuja on Friday.

The Chief of Naval Staff commended the Governor’s efforts, emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to providing security for investors and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

“As part of our role, it is our duty to ensure that we fulfil this critical aspect: providing security to instil confidence in investors to invest in this area.

“The governor proposed the Olokola LNG, Olokola Sea Port, and declaration of Tongeji Island as a free exploration zone. These investments are expected to attract a minimum of $10 billion to the Nigerian economy,” the Ogalla said.

The CNS said the Nigerian Navy have budgeted for this project in the 2024 national budget, which will enable us to facilitate its implementation in earnest.

He noted that the establishment of the Naval Dockyard and Base is expected to boost Ogun State’s economy, create jobs, and enhance the nation’s maritime security.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Governor highlighted the strategic importance of Ogun State to the nation and the Navy, citing its proximity to Lagos, industrial and educational hubs, and abundant natural resources.

He emphasized the state’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for public-private partnerships and ensuring good governance to attract investors.

Abiodun noted that the proposed Naval Dockyard and Base will be located in Olosumeta, with the state government providing 100 acres of land.

The project aims to enhance security, promote economic growth, and create opportunities for the citizens.

“We are the gateway state to Nigeria, both geographically and by providence. Our lofty vision would be impossible to achieve in an atmosphere of insecurity,” the governor stated.

“Due to our strategic location, we are also Nigeria’s industrial capital. Currently, Ogun State is ranked among the most peaceful states in Nigeria, and I extend my gratitude to our law enforcement agencies for making this possible.

The governor reiterated, “An atmosphere of insecurity would render our lofty vision unattainable.

Abiodun however praised the Nigerian Navy’s proactive approach, citing the visit of a team to the site and the acquisition of land for the project.

He pledged the state’s support to ensure the successful establishment of the base and dockyard.
