ECOWAS Defence Chiefs Forge Alliance Against Regional Security Threats
The ECOWAS Committee of Chief of Defence Staff today as emphasized the importance of collective action to combat the escalating security challenges in West Africa.
General Christopher Musa, Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff who doubled as Chairman of the committee, made this declaration at the closing ceremony of the 42nd Ordinary Meeting in Abuja.
General Musa stressed that no single nation can effectively address these challenges alone, highlighting the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
He emphasized that unity and cooperation among ECOWAS member states are crucial in overcoming the region’s security threats.
CDS Musa reflected on the past three days, highlighting essential presentations, engaging discussions, and exceptional networking opportunities.
He noted the emergence of new ideas and passion-driven solutions to enhance West Africa’s security landscape through collective participation.
He noted the importance of operationalization, resource allocation, and collective effort in addressing regional security challenges.

He stressed that commitments must be backed by action, expressing confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver on promises.
“We will not renege on our promises, Incredible ideas and solutions will enhance our capacity to tackle contemporary challenges,” he assured.
He regretted the absence of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, but acknowledged their symbolic presence through their flags.
The CDS urged continued collaboration to address emerging threats.
On his part, Commissioner Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, stated that the meeting enabled the development of strategies to confront regional security threats and reaffirm commitment to fighting terrorism.
“The meeting facilitated our collective strength in addressing terrorism,” he said.
“Key agenda items included integrating regional military forces and fine-tuning the roadmap for combating terrorism.”
Musah stressed the need for good governance, democracy, and security to move West Africa forward.
He appreciated Nigerian President and ECOWAS Chairman for providing facilities for fruitful deliberations, demonstrating Nigeria’s commitment to West African integrity, governance, and security.
