FG Provides Water Supply Schemes to 100,000 People in Katsina Communities
As part of sustained work in progress by the Federal Government to combat water shortages and improve the quality of lives of Nigerians, the Honourable Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Information & Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed visited Katsina State on Monday 28th May, 2018 to commission and hand over three completed Water Supply schemes and Irrigation projects located in Sabke, Dutsi and Mashi towns in the State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Minister said that “the Sabke water supply scheme is a conventional water treatment plant with a capacity to provide 4,370m3 per day or 1MGD of potable water to Daura and Mai’adua areas”.

Engr. Adamu noted that ” the Dutsi and Mashi water schemes are package plants with each having capacity to provide 1000m3 per day or about 250,000 gallons of treated water per day to Dutsi and Mashi inhabitants “. Speaking further, Engr Adamu reiterated that these three plants have capacity to serve over 100,000 people daily. He also said that with the commissioning of the schemes, the incidences of water borne diseases will be curtailed while sanitation and personal hygiene will be improved. The water schemes would also bring about positive changes in the overall socio-economic well being of the communities said Engr Adamu.
He congratulated the government and the good people of Katsina State and urged them to safeguard these laudable projects and ensure their functionalities at all times.
In his goodwill message, the Honourable Minister of Information & Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed said the commissioning of these water supply projects feeds into the goodwill agenda of the present administration of Presidential Muhammadu Buhari to showcase its achievements especially in the area of infrastructural development.
The Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Mohammed Inuwa expressed his gratitude and said that these water projects are essential to life. He promised that the state government will maintain, sustain and ensure maximum utilization of all the facilities provided.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Katsina State Commissioner for Water Resources, Salish Gambo Dandume reiterated commitment of Katsina State Ministry of Water Resources to partner with stakeholders in water resources sector towards achieving relevant water development agenda of Federal and State Governments.
