Defence Chief Seeks  Collaboration on Safe School Programme

In an effort to drive home the Federal Government’s Safe School Initiative Programme,  the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)  General Christopher Musa has recently called on all critical stakeholders to collaborate with the Nigerian Military towards sustaining the programme across the nation.

The CDS made the call during the Defence Headquarters’ (DHQ) Safe School Programme workshop held on Wednesday,  11 September, 2024 at the Army Officers’ Mess and Suites, Maiduguri Borno state.

In his remarks also, the Chief of Defence Training and Operations who was represented by the Director of Psychological Operations,  Major General Kevin Ukandu disclosed that the workshop was in line with the Federal Government national policy on safe,  secure and violent free schools.  Stressing that the advocacy becomes necessary due to incessant attacks on schools across the country as well as the abduction of school children.

He said the theme for the workshop ” Providing a secure and safe learning environment for the advancement of national development” resonates from the federal government plan with a role to all security agencies and civil society organisations working together to sustain the initiative.  General Ukandu reiterated that the essence of the workshop and the carefully selected topics was to educate stakeholders on their role in the safe school programme and guides to secure schools around them.

In his words ” the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) is for Nigerians and will continue to do all possible within its power to ensure the protection of teachers,  students and other stakeholders while working in close collaboration with other security agencies”.

The DHQ donated motorcycles to the vigilante groups in order to ease their efforts towards close monitoring of all schools in the metropolis.
