We Recovered N13bn Diverted Public Funds in September – ICPC Boss

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced the recovery of ₦13 billion diverted public funds in September, 2024.

The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, made this known to the press while given his welcome address at the launch of the ICPC Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028 at the NAF Conference Center, Abuja.

He described the exercise as a remarkable achievement.

According to the ICPC boss, the masterstroke is a testament to the commission’s relentless efforts at combating corruption and ensuring accountability in Nigeria.

“Over the past years, the ICPC has made significant progress in discharging its mandate; for example, we recovered over N13 billion diverted public funds in September 2024 alone.

“This is just one of the many ways we have worked tirelessly to fulfil our mandate,” he said.

The Chairman said that the commission is also embarking on ICT reforms that will enable the smooth running of its operations.

“We are also embarking on ICT reforms that will digitalise our operations and enable more efficient investigations, case management, and internal processes.

“This transformation will position the commission as a leader in leveraging technology to combat corruption, keeping us one step ahead of criminal activities in the digital age,” he added.

The Commission also unveiled its foremost digital media podcast program, known as “Ethicspod” in an effort to digitalise the fight against corruption.

The launch of the SAP for 2024–2028 is said to be a follow-up to the successful implementation of the 2019-2023 plan.

Ethicspod core objective is to educate and engage young Nigerians on the importance of transparency, accountability, and taking a stand against corruption.

The bi-weekly podcast will bring together experts, beneficiaries, victims, and key actors to discuss corruption, sharing real-life stories to expose its impact and empower listeners with practical tools to resist and report corrupt practices.

The podcast is an integral part of ICPC’s mission to increase public reporting of corruption cases by the end of the 2024-2028 SAP.
