BUK Students Participate in Facebook Project
The Dean Students’ Affairs of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Dr Shamsudeen Umar has commended the active participation of students of the university in the just concluded Spring 2018 Peer to Peer Contest.
Dr Shamsudeen gave the commendation during a certificate and gift presentation to mark the successful completion of the campaign tagged Lend A Voice in his office where the participants made excellent presentation and contributions, saying the University would continue to support students in their quest to bring more glories to the University in all ramifications.
The contest sponsored by Facebook in collaboration with Edventure Partners, United State of America has a theme: Facebook Global Digital Challenge on countering online hate speech and Violent extremism.

On his part, the Head of Department, Information and Media Studies, Dr Nura Ibrahim urged the University Management to provide a takeoff grant for subsequent campaigns as lack of fund slowed the pace of execution of a well-planned counter extremism campaign by the team members.
Dr. Nura said: “Our students made brilliant presentations by creating an Android App and designed an interactive website for the campaign in addition to visitation to selected media organizations, Almajiri schools in a Lengel village among other activities.”
In a remark, the team coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Danja, expressed delight and appreciation to participating Departments which include: Mass Communication, Information and Media Studies, Computer Science, Theatre and Arts and also School of Post Graduate Studies.
Also at the presentation Professor Maikano Madaki and Dr Hajara Umar Sanda, were presented with gifts for their immense contributions during the campaign while team members also received their certificates of participation.
