OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: Badaru Flags Off Renewed Air Campaign Against Banditry in Northwest
The Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to combating banditry and insurgency in Northwest Nigeria.
He stated this during his operational visit to the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina and Sokoto States on Monday.
The Minister emphasized the importance of operational readiness and sustained air superiority in securing peace across the region.
As part of his visit, Dr. Abubakar symbolically flagged off a re-invigorated air campaign under Operation FANSAN YAMMA. This campaign, according to him, marks a critical milestone in the fight against criminal elements threatening peace and stability in vulnerable communities.
Speaking during the event, the Defence Minister lauded the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its unwavering dedication and successful execution of air interdiction campaigns. He highlighted the tangible impact of these efforts, noting improvements in daily life for affected communities. “Farmers are returning to their fields, children are back in school, businesses are reopening, and Nigerians are sleeping in peace,” he said.

The President has provided state-of-the-art aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, significantly boosting our capabilities,” he added.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the Minister for his visit and ongoing support. He praised the Defence Minister’s leadership, noting its positive impact on the morale and fighting spirit of troops. “The NAF remains steadfast in its loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our commitment to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria,” the CAS assured.
The visit included inspections of operational facilities, interactions with field commanders, and briefings on the air campaign’s progress. A stunning fly-past by NAF fighter pilots showcased the professionalism and dedication of the airmen.
Dr. Abubakar commended the NAF’s strategic use of intelligence and advanced technology to identify and neutralize bandit strongholds, describing the air power’s role as pivotal in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
This renewed air campaign underscores the government’s determination to protect its citizens and ensure lasting peace in troubled regions.
