SAEMA 2024: Armed Forces Leveraging ‘Civil-Military Relations’ in Tackling Insecurity – CDS Musa

SAEMA 2024: Armed Forces Leveraging ‘Civil-Military Relations’ in Tackling Insecurity – CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has described Civil-Military Relations’ as a critical tool necessary for ensuring, peace, security and harmony in the country.

He said that the Armed Forces of Nigeria has been using the method in fostering good relationship between military and civilian population which ultimately lead to success of several operations.

General Musa disclosed this while delivering a keynote address during the 6th edition of the Security and Emergency Management Award (SAEMA 2024) and Conference held today in Abuja.

According to him, the success of military operations in every community setting is related to how well it relates with the residents.

The Defence Chief added that the AFN is currently developing new models aimed at enhancing Civil Military Relations in order to bolster their operations and enhance overall national security.

“Security needs collaborative efforts that involve state actors including agencies and civilian components in order to develop and implement a whole-of-society approach which is more viable to tackling security challenges.

“Military has been using non-kinetic measures in winning the hearts and minds of criminals including insurgents which ultimately lead to laying down of their arms and surrendering to troops especially in Northeast.

General Musa recalled how Military served at the forefront during the Maiduguri flood disaster in providing timely intervention in form of search and rescue operations, evacuation, medical outreach and distribution of relief materials to the distressed individuals.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Occasion, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, he commended the military for their continuous efforts in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Nigeria and ensuring the safety of lives and properties of the citizens.

Represented by the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jibrin Baba Ndache, the Minister added that, through the discharge of their duties, they have been safeguarding constitution while entrenching democracy.

During his opening remarks, Malam Yushau Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Image Merchant Promotion Limited, revealed that SAEMA award is initiated in order to celebrate hardwork, dedication and commitment to service.

“SAEMA is an annual ritual award ceremony which is organised by Emergency Digest, a publication of the award-winning Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) in collaboration with the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), to recognize outstanding gallantry, patriotism and other contributions of individuals and institutions to Nigeria’s safety, security and emergency management.” he said.

Malam Shuaib added that, rigorous processes were ensured in nominating and selecting the awardees by a panel of experts from security and response institutions.

Also, the Chairman of the Center for Crisis Communication (CCC), Chris Olukolade, a retired Major General, enjoined the military and other sister institutions to continue to maintain healthy inter-agency collaboration which is critical tool to performing their enshrined mandates.
