MASSIVE: Troops Neutralize 9,074 Terrorists in One Year

MASSIVE: Troops Neutralize 9,074 Terrorists in One Year

The military troops have eliminated a total of 9,074 terrorists in various operations across the country in the past 12 months the Defence Headquarters has said.

While briefing the journalists, Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, at the bi-weekly press conference in Abuja, said this is as result of the military’s intensified efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity.

He said Troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 2,918 terrorists, arrested 2,285 suspects, and rescued 1,496 kidnapped hostages in the North East.

“Additionally, 257 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and their families surrendered to troops”,he said.

Buba said the operation also resulted in the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 1,682 AK47 rifles, 392 fabricated rifles, 403 dane guns, 363 assorted arms, 39,612 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 15,253 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 11,931 assorted ammunitions.

His words: “Operation Safe Haven also recorded significant successes, with troops neutralizing 411 violent extremists, arresting 1,859 suspects, and rescuing 927 kidnapped hostages.

“Furthermore, troops recovered 238 AK47 rifles, 307 fabricated guns, 295 assorted arms, 18,324 rounds of 7.62mm special, 2,710 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 1,689 assorted ammunitions.

“In a similar vein, Operation Whirl Stroke sustained its operations in Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States, resulting in the neutralization of 583 terrorists, arrest of 916 suspects, and rescue of 649 kidnapped hostages.

“Troops also recovered 291 AK47 rifles, 302 assorted arms, 12,925 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 2,458 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 2,227 rounds of assorted ammunition.”

While breaking it further, he said troops of operation Hadarin Daji neutralized 2,646 terrorists, arresting 1,654 suspects, and rescuing 2,339 kidnapped hostages.

“The operation also resulted in the recovery of 1,341 AK47 rifles, 424 fabricated guns, 486 assorted arms, 29,068 rounds of 7.62mm special, 13,759 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 4,127 assorted ammunitions.

“Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Punch delivered significant damage to the terrorist military capabilities, resulting in the neutralization of 732 terrorists, arrest of 1,842 suspects, and rescue of 569 kidnapped hostages.

Troops also recovered 357 AK47 rifles, 289 assorted arms, 12,312 rounds of 7.62mm special, 5,658 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 2,807 assorted ammunitions.

He said troops operation UDO KA also sustained the momentum in capturing, flushing out, and destroying IPOB/ESN terrorists, resulting in eliminating of 666 terrorists, arrest of 893 suspects, and rescue of 323 kidnapped hostages.

“Troops also recovered 144 AK47 rifles, 240 pump action guns, 8,000 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,677 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, 5,373 live cartridges, 205 assorted arms, and 2,883 assorted ammunition”, he said.

Buba assured that troops will continue to be relentless in their pursuit of ending all forms of insecurity across the country.
