In a major breakthrough, the Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters and recovered counterfeit currencies equivalent to N129,542,823,000. The arrests were made following credible information provided by a Good Samaritan regarding the activities of a notorious fraudster operating in Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba, acting on the tip-off, directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwale Division, SP Abdurrahim Adamu, to lead a team of detectives to apprehend the suspects.

The operation, which commenced on December 1, 2024, resulted in the arrest of Nura Ibrahim, a 26-year-old resident of Sharada Quarters, Kano. Further investigations led to the apprehension of another suspect, Mohammed Muktar, aged 35, from Hotoro Quarters, Kano. The meticulous efforts of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) culminated in the arrest of the principal suspect, Ahmad Abdullahi, a 30-year-old from Kaga LGA in Borno State, who had relocated to Hotoro Quarters, Kano.

A statement by the state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, added that during the investigation, the police recovered counterfeit currencies in various denominations, including:

$3,366,000 (Three Million, Three Hundred and Sixty-six Thousand US Dollars)

CFA51,970,000 (Fifty-one Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Thousand West African CFA Francs)

N1,443,000 (One Million, Four Hundred and Forty-three Thousand Nigerian Naira)

The total value of the counterfeit currencies was estimated at N129.5 billion.

The police assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation. CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the Good Samaritan for the timely information and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

This operation underscores the commitment of the Kano State Police Command to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
