Gov. Abdulrazaq Unveils Ilorin Smart City Project, Compensates Landowners

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq addressed the 59th National Conference of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) at the Emir’s palace, highlighting key achievements of his administration. He commended the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and all stakeholders for their continued support and understanding.

Congratulating the IEDPU on its successes and contributions to peace and harmony within the Emirate, Governor Abdulrazaq announced the commencement of the Ilorin Smart City project, accompanied by the payment of compensation to affected landowners. He also revealed plans for the construction of 250 units of mass housing and the inauguration of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, in 2025.

The Governor emphasized the significant strides made through the urban renewal initiative, citing the upgraded roads within and outside Ilorin metropolis as prime examples. He also highlighted other major economic projects aimed at boosting prosperity across the state.

Acknowledging the IEDPU’s crucial role in supporting these initiatives, Governor Abdulrazaq pledged the government’s commitment to the completion of the organization’s innovation hub project, a vital step in upskilling young people and fostering social mobility.

“My team and I express our sincere gratitude to Mai Martaba, the Emir of Ilorin, the IEDPU leadership, and all of you for the unwavering support you have extended to our administration and the government of His Excellency President Bola Tinubu,” stated the Governor. “We deeply appreciate your continued collaboration.”

“Three years ago, a guest lecturer at this esteemed gathering highlighted the alarming decline of Ilorin’s socioeconomic legacies, urging all stakeholders to address this critical issue,” he continued.

“We are proud to announce that we are actively transforming the Ilorin landscape. From Sulu-Gambari Road to Oja Oba, Balogun Fulani to Gambari, Ibrahim Taiwo Road to General Roundabout, Unity to A- Division, Omoda to Idi Ape, Challenge to Ahmadu Bello Way, Tanke Junction to Tipper Garage, and many others, Ilorin is rapidly evolving into a modern city, boasting upgraded infrastructure and restored law and order for the benefit of all its citizens.

“This urban renewal initiative is not confined to Ilorin metropolis,” he added. “It is being extended to other parts of the state, with the ongoing massive reconstruction of the Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Offa serving as a prime example.”

“Beyond infrastructure, we are diligently reviving the economic legacies of our community,” the Governor emphasized. “Work has commenced on revitalizing the traditional dada pottery industry, while we have mobilized contractors to the Patigi Motel to reinvigorate local economic activities across Kwara State.”

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have long awaited a significant transformation of our state’s infrastructure, particularly within the capital city,” he stated.

“This transformation is now underway. Between 2023 and the present, we have successfully delivered 145 roads of various specifications across the state, with an additional 50 currently under construction.”

“However, it is crucial to acknowledge that significant infrastructural development and reforms inevitably present challenges,” he cautioned. “We urge you to bear with us as we navigate these complexities.”

“Once again, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the IEDPU on this momentous occasion,” concluded the Governor. “I commend the leadership for their understanding and unwavering support for our programs. I sincerely appreciate your dedicated advocacy for a more prosperous, peaceful, and progressive Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State. Rest assured of our continued support in every endeavor.”
