How NAF’s Effectiveness Boosts Military’s Counter-Terrorism Efforts – CDS Musa

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has proven to be a crucial element in the country’s counter-terrorism efforts, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa has said.

He noted that the recent successes against terrorists and bandits in Borno and Katsina states demonstrate the NAF’s effectiveness.

Gen. Musa highlighted the NAF’s critical role in ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across various regions.

He praised NAF personnel for their professionalism and determination in combating enemies of the state.

According to Gen. Musa, the NAF has been a critical component in ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

Gen. Musa’s made the remark at the NAF Headquarters 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA), held at the NAF Base Parade Ground in Abuja.

The defence chief noted that NAF had been a critical component in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations across various theatres of operation.

He commended NAF personnel for standing strong, determined and professional in ensuring that the military dealt with all enemies of the state.

According to him, the strategic projection of air power has proven to be a game-changer, enabling us the air force to strike deep into enemy territories, disrupt their operations and protect citizens.

He said that the nation was facing numerous security challenges that demanded constant vigilance and the collective resolve of the military.

“The recent successful missions, including those in Kukawa, Borno State, and the joint operations in Katsina against notorious bandit kingpins, exemplify the effectiveness of the NAF.

“These operations have significantly weakened the operational capabilities of these adversaries, limiting their ability to target our vulnerable communities.

“Such achievements underscore the air force’s pivotal role in our national security strategy and highlight the bravery and professionalism of our airmen and airwomen.

“The evolving nature of these threats, from traditional insurgency to kidnappings and banditry, poses new challenges,” he said.

The CDS assured all Nigerians that the armed forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, were fully prepared to confront and neutralise all threats.

According to him, comprehensive plans have been put in place and the millionaires was already witnessing tangible results.

He said that the recent neutralisation of key terrorist figures and the dismantling of their operational infrastructure had significantly helped in restoring peace and security across the nation.

The CDS noted that the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu was instrumental to the successes so far recorded by the military.

“Under his stewardship, the NAF has undergone a remarkable transformation.

“The new role of the aircraft fleet, coupled with enhanced operational readiness, is a testament to the administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening our national defence.

“The provision of necessary resources and support ensures that the Nigerian Air Force remains at the forefront of safeguarding our sovereignty.

“On behalf of the Nigerian Air Force and all citizens, I also extend our profound gratitude to our dear President for his exceptional leadership and steadfast support.

“His dedication to the welfare of the armed forces is a cornerstone of our national security and a source of inspiration for all,” he added.

Musa said that the 2024 BASA was a testament to the richness of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and the unity it fosters among the people, adding that it was a celebration of tradition and the spirit of togetherness that bound the nation.

According to him, such cultural celebrations underscore the collective commitment to promoting national unity and cultural pride.

“This occasion provides a unique platform for air force personnel, their families and friends to come together, embrace their roots, and share in the joy of our diverse traditions.

“It is a time to relax, reflect and celebrate the cultural mosaic that defines us.

“These moments of unity are vital as they reinforce the bonds that strengthen our national fabric,” he added.

In his remark, hte Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, said the event found its roots in the colonial era, adding that it had since grown into a cherished military tradition and a highly anticipated annual event.

Abubakar said that BASA was a deeply symbolic occasion that paid homage to the nation’s cultural heritage and identity as a people.

“Long before we became a country, our focus, forebears established thriving societies grounded in the values of unity, community and innovation.

“Today, we remember and honour remarkable civilisations such as the Nok Culture, renowned for their terracotta artistry; the Benin Kingdom, celebrated for its intricate bronze words and the Sokoto Caliphate, a beacon of scholarship and governance.

“Equally noteworthy is the Kanem Borno Empire, a major hope of the Trans-Saharan trade, as well as the exceptional craftsmanship offerings in the year 2025 and beyond,” he said
