Upcoming Executive Orders: What to Expect from President Trump

On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump is anticipated to sign several executive orders addressing key policy areas

Immigration and Border Security:

National Emergency at the Border: Declare a national emergency at the southern border, directing the Department of Defense to allocate additional resources and personnel.

“Remain in Mexico” Policy: Reinstate the policy requiring non-Mexican asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for their U.S. immigration hearings.

Designation of Gangs and Cartels as Terrorist Organizations: Classify groups such as MS-13 and Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua as foreign terrorist organizations.

Resume Border Wall Construction: Issue a directive to complete the unfinished sections of the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

End Birthright Citizenship: Attempt to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants, a move likely to face legal challenges.

Suspend Refugee Admissions: Pause refugee admissions into the U.S. for at least four months.

Death Penalty for Certain Crimes by Unauthorized Immigrants: Direct the Attorney General to seek the death penalty for unauthorized immigrants convicted of murdering law enforcement officers or committing other capital offenses.

End “Catch and Release”: Terminate the practice allowing migrants to live in the community while awaiting their immigration hearings.

Climate and Environmental Policies:

Rescind Climate Regulations: Revoke previous administration’s climate-related regulations, potentially including rejoining the Paris Agreement.

Diversity and Inclusion Policies:

End Diversity Training Programs: Abolish federal diversity training programs, labeling them as divisive.

These anticipated executive actions reflect President Trump’s commitment to his campaign promises and signal a significant shift in U.S. policy direction.
