UK Minister of State Hails Nigeria as Strategic Partner, Urges Stronger Defence Ties
The UK Minister of State, Lord Baron Vernon Rodney Coaker, has hailed Nigeria as a strategic partner, nothing that the country’s importance in the region.
As statement by Director Defence Information, Brigadier General, Tukur Gusau today in Abuja.
He said during his official visit to the Defence Headquarters, Coaker reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening military relationships with Nigeria, while acknowledged the cordial ties between the two nations.
He expressed the UK’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria in addressing security challenges, emphasizing their shared commitment to democracy.
The UK Minister described Nigeria as “not just a friend but a strategic partner,” highlighting the country’s importance in regional security.

Cover noted that this is his first official trip outside the UK since assuming office, underscoring the significance of Nigeria-UK relations.
He further appreciated the UK for its continuous support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria ( AFN) through sponsorship of Nigeria technical team and Special Forces.
According to him, both countries will stand together to defend Democracy, as he maitained that Nigeria and the UK cherish democracy as a form of government. He said he looks forward to a continuous working relationship in the nearest future.
In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Air Vice Marshal Shayo Olatunde, thanked Coaker for the visit and appreciated the UK’s ongoing support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He commended the UK Government for supporting Nigeria Military in the training of over Hundreds of AFN personnel in Civil Military Relations and the provision of counter Improvised Device Mobile equipment.
Olatunde requested further collaboration in areas such as training and cyber warfare..
