Tinubu Commissions New Army Barracks in Abuja, Pledges Support for Troops’ Welfare

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a newly constructed Nigerian Army Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare and operational efficiency of military personnel.

The state-of-the-art facility, named after the President, is a major step towards addressing the accommodation needs of Army officers and soldiers.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu emphasized that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring a conducive environment for troops. He stressed the importance of modern housing and office spaces in enhancing the morale and effectiveness of military personnel.

“The welfare of our troops remains a top priority for this administration. We will continue to provide the necessary resources and infrastructure to enable them to discharge their duties effectively,” Tinubu stated.

Commending the Nigerian Army for its resilience in safeguarding the nation, the President urged continued infrastructural development and maintenance of military facilities. He also acknowledged the Army’s role in national security and expressed confidence in its leadership.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, describing the naming of the barracks after him as a gesture of appreciation. He highlighted that the project, initiated by his predecessors, Lt Gen Farouk Yahaya and the late Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has completed its first two phases, providing accommodation for 614 personnel, including 170 officers and 444 soldiers with their families.

“With the continued support of the Federal Government, we are optimistic that phases three and four will be completed soon to further address the housing needs of our personnel,” Oluyede said.

Reaffirming the Army’s loyalty to the Constitution, the COAS assured Nigerians of the military’s commitment to national security and socio-economic development. He also called on the government and citizens to continue supporting troops in their efforts to protect the country.

As part of the day’s events, President Tinubu also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for an ultra-modern Armed Forces Complex in Abuja, further demonstrating his administration’s resolve to strengthen Nigeria’s security infrastructure.
