Customs Facilitates ₦60.29trn Imports, ₦136.65trn Exports, Grants ₦1.68trn Concessions

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported significant progress in trade facilitation and revenue collection for 2024, managing imports valued at ₦60.29 trillion and exports worth ₦136.65 trillion.

This was disclosed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, during the 2025 International Customs Day event held at the NCS Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

Adeniyi outlined the Service’s strategic efforts to balance trade facilitation with security measures, emphasizing its role in supporting economic growth.

He revealed that the NCS achieved ₦6.1 trillion in revenue collection, surpassing its target by 20.2% and reflecting a 90.4% year-over-year increase.

“Our commitment to operational efficiency is reflected in initiatives like the Advanced Ruling System and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program,” Adeniyi said.

The AEO program has reduced cargo clearance time by 66.9%, with certified companies now enjoying an average release time of 43 hours, contributing to smoother trade operations.

The introduction of the indigenous customs clearance platform, ‘B’Odogwu,’ has further enhanced efficiency. Adeniyi noted that the platform, currently in its pilot phase, has facilitated transactions worth billions of naira, underscoring the Service’s adoption of technology to improve service delivery.

In addition to revenue generation, the NCS granted ₦1.68 trillion in concessions across various sectors to encourage industrial development and economic growth.

Adeniyi also highlighted the NCS’s commitment to border security, aligning with the 2025 International Customs Day theme, “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity.”

Looking ahead, Adeniyi announced plans for trade modernization projects, expanded implementation of the AEO program, advanced risk management systems, and the establishment of the Nigeria Customs Service University for Trade and Technology.

He commended the dedication of NCS personnel and called for continued collaboration with stakeholders and the global customs community to drive efficiency and innovation in customs administration.
