CCC Tasks EFCC on Media Engagement to Fight Smear Campaigns

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enhance its media engagement strategies in order to effectively counter smear campaigns and misinformation aimed at discrediting its anti-corruption efforts.

Major General Chris Olukolade (Rtd), the Chairman of the Centre, made the call while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

The CCC commended the EFCC for its renewed determination in tackling corruption, particularly in high-profile cases, and emphasized the crucial role of strategic communication in amplifying the Commission’s successes.

The Chairman urged all Nigerians to unite in support of the EFCC, stressing that a corruption-free Nigeria is only achievable through collective effort and sustained transparency.

“As admirers of the EFCC’s anti-corruption resolve, we emphasize the importance of strategic communication in countering misinformation.

“We urge the EFCC to enhance its media engagement strategies to combat fake news and smear campaigns orchestrated by corrupt individuals attempting to undermine the agency’s resolve,” the Centre said.

The CCC noted that misinformation campaigns have been used to weaken public trust in anti-corruption institutions and called for proactive measures to ensure that the EFCC’s achievements are effectively communicated to Nigerians.

“It is essential for Nigerians to understand that the EFCC’s efforts are crucial in promoting good governance and accountability. We must support and stand by the EFCC in its quest to rid Nigeria of corruption,” the CCC added.

The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the EFCC by providing expertise and resources to strengthen the fight against corruption.
