PR Experts Key to Solving Nigeria’s Trust Deficit – NIPR

The Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, has said that only professionals who understand reputation and reputation management can address Nigeria’s deep-rooted socio-political and economic challenges.

He made this assertion at the “Reputation Roundtable” organized by the NIPR FCT Chapter in Abuja on Wednesday..

Prof. Dandaura stressed that reputation training is critical at this time, as trust deficits continue to undermine governance, corporate credibility, and public confidence in institutions.

“It is those who understand reputation and reputation management that can solve the deluge of Nigeria’s problems,” he said.

According to him, many individuals, corporate organizations, and the nation itself are grappling with serious trust issues, which have led to widespread reputational crises.

He warned that without urgent intervention, these challenges could further weaken Nigeria’s social and economic fabric.

Dandaura emphasized that PR professionals are uniquely positioned to help restore credibility, as they possess the expertise to rebuild public trust through strategic communication.

“The roundtable is apt, as it will retool PR practitioners—who are the engineers—that would help address most of our national issues,” he noted.

The NIPR Vice President linked reputation building to good governance and accountability, stating that leaders must prioritize transparency to regain the trust of the people.

He urged policymakers to integrate reputation management into governance strategies, warning that a poor national image discourages investment and public participation in development efforts.

He also called on Nigeria’s leaders to work closely with PR experts to navigate the country’s reputational challenges.

“It is PR experts that could help our leaders tackle the problem,” he stated, adding that strategic communication is essential in shaping a more credible and trustworthy Nigeria.
