Police Dismiss Rumors of Terrorists in FCT, Urge Caution in Information Sharing

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked viral social media messages claiming that 79 terrorists have infiltrated the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and that a curfew has been imposed. The Police described the information as false and urged the public to disregard it.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police warned that the misleading message, which has been circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, was designed to incite panic and destabilize peace in the FCT. The statement further clarified that intelligence reports from the Force Intelligence team and other security agencies had found no evidence to support the claims.

“The message, purportedly signed by my office, is a complete fabrication,” Adejobi stated. “We believe it was generated by mischievous individuals seeking to create unnecessary fear and tension.”

The Police urged citizens to rely only on official sources for security-related updates, including the Nigeria Police Force’s verified social media accounts on X (@PoliceNG), Facebook (@ngpolice), and Instagram (@nigeriapoliceforce). They also advised the public to verify information before sharing it to avoid spreading falsehoods that could create unnecessary panic.

Reassuring residents of their safety, the Nigeria Police Force emphasized its commitment to protecting lives and property across the FCT and the country. Citizens were encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the designated emergency contact lines.

The Police also appreciated the public’s cooperation and called for calm, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining peace and security.
