NATIONWIDE OPERATIONS: Troops Crush Terrorists, Neutralize High-Profile Commanders, Recover Weapons

In a series of ferocious and coordinated offensives, gallant troops of the Nigerian Army have unleashed devastating attacks on terrorist enclaves, dealing a crippling blow to insurgent operations across multiple states.

The relentless crackdown has led to the neutralization of high-profile terrorist commanders, the recovery of an astonishing cache of deadly weapons, and the rescue of captives held for years in terrorist captivity.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State launched a ruthless assault on a fortified terrorist stronghold on March 1, 2025. The ensuing gun battle saw troops overpowering the insurgents, forcing them into disarray and recovering a massive haul of arms and ammunition, including 11 Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, an AK-47 rifle, over 1,400 rounds of ammunition, and a DSHK heavy machine gun barrel.

In a decisive encounter near Garin Fallujah, troops neutralized a notorious terrorist commander, Abba Alai (Amirul Khahid of Alafa), who had long been on security watchlists. Further clearance operations in Unguwan Abdullahi led to the destruction of terrorist life-support structures and the seizure of essential supplies meant for their survival.

The Ukuba Forest operation yielded another significant breakthrough, as troops recovered an alarming assortment of heavy weaponry, including two General-Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), an anti-aircraft gun, RPG launchers, and a Mowag armored tank engine.

In Gwoza Local Government Area, troops stationed as a blocking force delivered a crushing blow to insurgents attempting to flee Sambisa Forest. The terrorists, overwhelmed by the offensive, abandoned their weapons and fled in panic. A meticulous search of Gobara village led to the recovery of 57 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, three AK-47 magazines, and two prototype firearms suspected to be used for training new recruits.

A particularly heartwarming development saw troops rescuing an elderly woman who had been held hostage for 10 years.

Meanwhile, in Chibok Local Government Area, troops raided a notorious kidnappers’ hideout in Shirkaki village, apprehending a high-profile suspect and recovering two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action shotgun, and six cartridges.

The offensive extended beyond Borno, as troops in Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara States repelled multiple terrorist attacks, engaged insurgents in fierce gun battles, and dismantled their operational bases. In Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, a high-ranking terrorist commander voluntarily surrendered, handing over two AK-47 rifles and freeing ten captives, including seven women and three children.

In Delta State, troops executed a significant counterterrorism breakthrough by capturing Ekene Ifeanyi, a high-profile IPOB/ESN commander, in Issele Asagba Forest, Oshimili South Local Government Area. The suspect, who had been on a security watchlist, confessed to spearheading IPOB/ESN terrorist cells in the region.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their resilience, pledging continued support for their welfare and well-being. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and criminality, vowing to sustain the momentum until peace and stability are fully restored across the nation.
