African PR Community Pays Tribute to Kabir Dangogo

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the global public relations community are mourning the loss of Mallam Kabir Dangogo, a revered figure in the PR industry, whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the profession. Dangogo, a former Secretary General of APRA, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, integrity, and dedication to the growth of public relations in Africa and beyond.

Senior members of APRA and other PR professionals have paid glowing tributes to Dangogo, highlighting his pivotal role in shaping the association and the profession. Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, a past President and Secretary General of APRA, described Dangogo as a diligent and meticulous leader who played a key role in laying the foundation for APRA as it is known today. “His insistence on following procedures often projected him as unyielding, but that was who he was, and he had no apologies for it,” Badejo-Okusanya recalled. He also noted that Dangogo’s illness in his later years slowed him down, but his contributions to APRA, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB) remain unparalleled.

Dr. Wole Adamolekun, a senior lecturer and author, expressed shock at Dangogo’s passing, reminiscing about how Dangogo brought him into the fold of APRA. “Kabir was a soft-spoken, firm, principled, and passionate professional who single-handedly mentored many of us,” Adamolekun said. He described Dangogo as a global PR practitioner whose legacy projects, including APRA and other associations, continue to thrive. “My heart goes out to his family at this difficult time. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.

Victor Sibeko, former President of the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA), described Dangogo as a giant in the PR industry whose impact will be felt for years to come. “Kabir was more than just a PR practitioner; he was a teacher, mentor, and leader,” Sibeko said. He fondly recalled their joint travels across Africa and Dangogo’s commitment to fostering relationships within the profession. “His legacy will continue to shape the PR landscape in Africa and beyond,” Sibeko noted.

Wole Olaoye, Chairman and CEO of Diametrics Limited, remembered Dangogo as a “perfect gentleman” who was ever genial and humble. Olaoye shared personal anecdotes of their time together in the corporate affairs world, highlighting Dangogo’s role as one of the founders of the corporate affairs managers association. “The PR profession is poorer without Kabir Dangogo,” Olaoye lamented.

Abubakar Bello Abdullahi, former Chairman of the NIPR FCT Chapter, also paid tribute to Dangogo, describing him as an excellent and peace-loving PR practitioner. Abdullahi recalled their late-night conversations in Kaduna and Dangogo’s role as the CEO of Timex Communications. “Malam Kabir was a hardworking, humble, and friendly person who left a record of good PR practice wherever he went,” Abdullahi said. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on Dangogo’s soul and for him to be granted a place in aljannah Firdaus.

Dangogo’s passing has left a void in the PR community, but his legacy of professionalism, mentorship, and dedication to the growth of public relations in Africa will continue to inspire future generations. As the tributes pour in, it is clear that Kabir Dangogo was not just a PR practitioner but a visionary leader who elevated the standards of the profession. May his soul rest in peace.
