Kano Police Nab 4 Suspected Bandits, Seize Weapons; Manhunt Launched for Gunmen, Rapists

In a series of coordinated operations, the Kano State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, arresting four suspected bandits, recovering arms and cash, and launching manhunts for perpetrators of violent crimes in the state.

Zagazola reported that on March 6, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., police operatives acting on credible intelligence conducted a targeted raid led by the Officer-in-Charge of Jarkuka Outpost, Mariri Division. The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects: Shukurana Salihu, 25; Rabi’u Dahiru, 35; Ya’u Idris, 30 (all from Katsina State); and Muktar Sani from Yandodo Hotoro Quarters, Kano State. The suspects were found in possession of three locally made revolver pistols, two cutlasses, twelve live ammunition of various calibers, three cartridges, four knives, four mobile phones, twenty-four pellets, and a vigilante group identity card.

The Kano Police Command has intensified efforts to curb criminal activities in the region. In a related development, the Command recently arrested three suspected car thieves and recovered two stolen vehicles. Investigations into the banditry case are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.

However, the state has also witnessed a surge in violent crimes. In the early hours of Saturday, March 8, 2025, gunmen attacked the residence of Alhaji Yusha’u Ma’aruf in Zakirai Village, Gabasawa Local Government Area (LGA). The assailants, armed with rifles and machetes, amputated the left finger of Ma’aruf’s 23-year-old son, Abubakar Yusha’u, and abducted his 20-year-old son, Mohammed Bello Yusha’u. The attackers also stole mobile phones and an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing. Security operatives have launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted victim and arrest the perpetrators.

In a separate incident on March 7, 2025, a group of five hoodlums invaded the home of Muttaqa Malam, 50, in Tatsan Yamma Village, Tsanyawa LGA. The attackers forcefully entered the room of his wife, Hadiza Muttaqa, 27, tied her up with a USB cable, gang-raped her, and stole valuable household items. The victim was rushed to Bichi General Hospital for medical attention. Crime scene detectives have been dispatched to gather evidence, and a full-scale manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects.

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to ensuring safety and security, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
