Marwa Unveils NDLEA Fitness Center, Harps on Officers’ Health, Performance
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has underscored the importance of physical and mental fitness for agency personnel in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
On Monday, March 10, 2025, Marwa commissioned a cutting-edge fitness center at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, emphasizing that the new facility reflects his unwavering commitment to the well-being of the agency’s officers. He aligned the initiative with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to strengthen the health and capacity of the agency’s workforce.

Marwa spoke of the crucial link between physical endurance and the successful execution of the NDLEA’s mandate, stating that drug enforcement requires not only intelligence and strategy but also resilience and agility. He noted that the nature of the agency’s operations—ranging from high-intensity enforcement to long surveillance hours—demands that officers remain in peak physical condition.
“A fit officer is a more effective officer,” Marwa said. “Fitness enhances operational readiness, reduces stress, and sharpens mental focus, enabling officers to react swiftly and make sound decisions under pressure. This center is more than just a gym; it’s an investment in our people—the heart of this agency.”
The fitness center, Marwa added, would be a valuable resource for officers in Abuja and serves as a model for similar facilities to be developed at zonal and state levels as funding permits. He encouraged all personnel to fully utilize the facility, ensuring it becomes a daily space for growth and transformation, both physically and mentally.
“This center symbolizes our commitment to building a stronger, more resilient NDLEA,” Marwa concluded. “It’s a reminder that our best work comes from our best selves—physically, mentally, and professionally. Together, we will continue to strengthen the agency and rise to the challenges ahead.”
