Troops neutralize kidnappers, rescue captives in Kaduna, Plateau

In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities, troops of the 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have neutralized two kidnappers, arrested suspected gunrunners, and rescued abducted victims in Plateau and Kaduna states.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for OPSH, the operations were conducted under Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A to dismantle armed criminal groups threatening local communities.

On March 12, troops stormed hideouts in Kuru and Turu, Jos South LGA, Plateau State, following intelligence on the presence of kidnappers and terrorists. Engaging the criminals in combat, the troops neutralized two suspects and recovered 18 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition and nine rounds of 5.56x45mm ammunition.

In another operation at Josho Village, Bokkos LGA, troops rescued two abducted girls—11-year-old Nanbam Adamu and Dorcas Wantu—after kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled. The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families as follow-up operations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.

Security forces also intercepted arms traffickers operating across Plateau and Kaduna states. Acting on credible intelligence, troops set up snap checkpoints along the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu Road, where they arrested 21-year-old Sengi David. Found in possession of an AK-47 magazine and 48 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, the suspect is now under investigation.

In a separate sting operation on March 11, security operatives arrested 22-year-old Blessed Paul, a wanted kidnapper and arms dealer, in Garaje Community, Jema’a LGA, Kaduna State. Having fled to Abuja to evade arrest, Paul was lured back under the pretense of purchasing an AK-47 rifle for ₦1.5 million. Troops posing as buyers apprehended him at a pre-arranged location, seizing an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and two rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is making critical confessions, which could lead to further arrests of his criminal associates.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against criminals, assuring citizens of continuous efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
