Police Rescue 21 Kidnapped Victims, Recover N4.8m Ransom, Arrest 6 Suspects

In a series of coordinated security operations, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued 21 kidnapped victims, recovered a total of N4.8 million in ransom money, and arrested six suspects linked to violent crimes across the country.

The police intensified their crackdown on kidnapping and banditry in the first quarter of 2025, dismantling criminal networks and intercepting illicit arms through intelligence-driven raids.

One of the major operations took place in Taraba State on March 29, when police operatives attached to the state command responded to a kidnapping incident along the Takum/Mararaba road. Security forces, in collaboration with other agencies, engaged in a gun battle with the kidnappers at Muji Town, successfully rescuing 20 victims and recovering vehicles abandoned at the scene. Two of the rescued individuals who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical care.

In Kano State, an investigation into the abduction of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau on March 8 led to a breakthrough. Technical analysis conducted by the police Anti-Kidnapping Squad resulted in the arrest of five suspects—Tukur Lawal (alias Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim—on March 18 and 19. Authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash believed to be ransom money. The victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.

Additionally, operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested Kafinta Musa in Taraba State over alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms possession. During the arrest, an AK49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was recovered, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of his criminal syndicate.

Commending the officers for their bravery and professionalism, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the force’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring national security. He urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid in crime-fighting efforts.

These operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to protect communities and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
