N/Delta: Army Troops Arrest 43 Oil Thieves, Seize 254,000 Liters of Stolen Products
The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has arrested 43 suspected oil thieves and confiscated over 254,000 liters of stolen petroleum products in the Niger Delta Region.
The operation, conducted from March 31 to April 6, 2025, was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies across the Joint Operations Area.
A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah,Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations, said, troops uncovered a massive illegal bunkering site at Old Ogorode in Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State, with 9 drums of 1000 liters each filled with 90,000 liters of stolen products.
“Several vehicles were intercepted, including a Ford Bus and a Volvo Canter truck, with 56 drums of stolen crude oil estimated to be 13,400 liters.

“4 artisanal refineries were deactivated, and 14 boats used for economic sabotage were demobilized,” he said
He added that troops also intercepted a mini tanker conveying 11,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO) at Ughelli North LGA.
In Rivers State, llegal refining sites were dismantled, with pots and receivers and over 80,000 liters of stolen crude confiscated in Ataba general area, Andoni LGA.
According him, Troops also dismantled an illegal refining site in Bayelsa Statewith three ovens, four refining drums, receivers with dug out pits filled with over 8,000 liters of stolen crude.
Danjuma noted that “The joint security force shall continue to deny unrepentant criminals the space to commit havoc in the state
“We will not relent to sustain a secure environment where legitimate exploration activities can thrive without criminal interference.”
