Police Neutralize Four Kidnappers, Recover 18 Rifles, 192 Live Ammunition in Delta, Kano
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to clamp down on violent crimes across the country, neutralizing four suspected kidnappers and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition in separate operations in Delta and Kano States.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on April 10, 2025, police operatives attached to the Delta State Command arrested one Abubakar Usman, popularly known as “Shehu,” identified as the leader of a deadly kidnapping gang operating within the state.
Following his arrest, the suspect confessed to several high-profile abductions and murders, including the kidnapping of a medical doctor at Issele-Uku, the abduction and subsequent killing of the wife and daughter of Mr. Godwin Anuka at Ogwashi-Uku, and the kidnap-murder of Ms. Esther Ojoh at Ibusa.

Acting on his confession, operatives stormed the gang’s hideout in a forest along the Asaba/Agbor expressway, where they were met with gunfire. In the gun battle that ensued, four gang members were killed, and the police recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition.
In a separate operation in Kano State on the same day, police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested three suspects — Abdul Sadiq, 43; Ahmad Muazu, 22; and Aliyu Sharif, 40 — at Dorayi Babba area. Further investigation led to the discovery of 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and 6 expended cartridges.
According to ACP Adejobi, investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the locally fabricated firearms and dismantle the production network.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to rooting out criminals and ensuring national security.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mandate to combat all forms of violent crime that pose a threat to public safety and national peace,” the IGP stated.
The operations, which mark another milestone in the fight against insecurity, reflect the Police Force’s intensified efforts to restore safety and confidence in communities across Nigeria.
