Police raid IPOB/ESN enclave, nab 3, recover weapons, N10.3m in Imo

In a significant pre-Easter security crackdown, operatives of the Imo State Police Command have raided a suspected hideout of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Okigwe Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a staggering ₦10.3 million in cash.

The raid, executed in the early hours of April 17, 2025, was carried out by the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with local vigilante groups. Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, confirmed the development in a statement issued Thursday.

“Following credible intelligence, our operatives stormed a building located on Cameron Street in Ubahu, Okigwe, suspected to be used by IPOB/ESN elements,” Henry stated. “During the raid, we recovered an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, eighteen live cartridges, several mobile phones, laptops, and ₦10.3 million in cash.”

The suspects apprehended have been identified as Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent (21), Ugwu Ikenna (31), and Ofor Kasarachi (37). Two other individuals reportedly escaped into the surrounding bushland and are currently at large.

Preliminary investigations indicate the seized cash was being mobilized by the group to support subversive and terror-related operations in the region.

In light of the raid, the Imo State Police Command has assured citizens of enhanced security measures during the Easter festivities, including intensified patrols, surveillance operations, and the establishment of joint security checkpoints.

“We urge residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post,” DSP Henry added, reaffirming the police’s commitment to a peaceful and safe holiday period.
