US Hails NDLEA’s Achievements, Pledges More Support

The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its operational successes and pledged continued support and collaboration in Nigeria’s fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The Director of INL in Nigeria, Ms. Candace Spradley, gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja. She was accompanied by her colleague, Ms. Ada Aki.

Spradley emphasized that the visit was aimed at reinforcing the US government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s anti-narcotics efforts, particularly in tackling the menace of opioids. She assured Marwa of the Bureau’s readiness to expand the ongoing collaboration.

“Our visit is to underscore the importance of our collaboration and to assure you that we’re ready to support your work. If there is any area of assistance you would like, we’ll be ready to assist you,” she stated.

In his remarks, Marwa reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. He also acknowledged US President Donald Trump’s keen interest in addressing the global drug scourge.

While expressing gratitude for the INL’s ongoing support, Marwa highlighted that further assistance is needed to consolidate the NDLEA’s achievements, which have positioned the Agency as Africa’s leading anti-narcotics organization.

He identified key areas requiring support, including operational vehicles, forensic laboratory equipment, training for forensic analysts, enhanced cybercrime and cryptocurrency investigation capabilities, and the provision of field drug testing kits.

The visit, according to NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, underscores the strengthening partnership between the two countries in the global fight against illicit drugs.
