Nigerian Navy Commissions Another Education Intervention Projects in Zaria

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a suite of Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects at the Waziri Lawal LEA Primary School, Zaria, Kaduna State, as part of its ongoing Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative aimed at uplifting underserved communities across the country.

The commissioning ceremony was led by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, who lauded the initiative as a testament to the Navy’s renewed commitment to national development beyond its maritime security mandate. The project was facilitated by Rear Admiral Mohammed Miftah Abdullahi, a distinguished indigene of Zaria and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Admiralty University of Nigeria.

Vice Admiral Ogalla, in his remarks, emphasized the Navy’s strategy of implementing high-impact community development projects across operational theatres to consolidate military-civilian relations and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Today’s commissioning in Zaria comes just six days after a similar project was unveiled in Kaoje, Kebbi State. This is part of a deliberate effort under my leadership to deepen Civil-Military Cooperation by improving lives at the grassroots,” he stated.

The commissioned facilities include seven renovated and furnished classrooms, a modern administrative block, four blocks of toilets, and a mechanized solar-powered borehole—all aimed at providing a conducive learning environment for pupils and staff of the school.

The CNS hailed Rear Admiral Abdullahi for his thoughtfulness and commitment to community service, noting that the projects reflect his passion for education and human capital development. “These life-enhancing projects will leave an indelible mark on the sands of time,” Ogalla said, while also urging pupils and staff to maintain the facilities responsibly.

Rear Admiral Abdullahi, in his address, expressed deep appreciation to the CNS for approving and supporting the initiative. He noted that the rising number of out-of-school children in Nigeria was a major concern, and that revamping the school infrastructure would go a long way in addressing educational gaps within the community.

“By renovating this school and providing critical facilities, we aim to foster peace, promote learning, and strengthen the cordial relationship between the Navy and local communities. This project is a gesture of goodwill that will benefit present and future generations,” Abdullahi stated.

He assured the public that mechanisms had been put in place for the proper maintenance of the facilities, with the full involvement of community stakeholders.

The event was the second of such projects commissioned in Zaria in five months, following the inauguration of an upgraded primary healthcare centre in Samaru Village, Sabon Gari LGA, in December 2024.

Dignitaries at the event included local government officials, traditional leaders, educational administrators, and representatives of sister security agencies.

The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to contributing meaningfully to national development through strategic interventions that enhance security, education, and socio-economic growth.
