Scores killed as bandits ambush hunters in Bauchi, police confirm
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed multiple casualties following a deadly ambush by gunmen targeting vigilantes and civilians in Mansur, a community in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the command disclosed that the attack occurred around 5:40 am on Sunday and was reported to the Alkaleri Divisional Headquarters at about 9:40 am.
According to the statement, a joint team of local hunters from Duguri and Gwana districts was conducting a routine patrol through the Duguri-Mansur axis and Dajin Madam forest, which borders Plateau State, when they were ambushed by heavily armed bandits.

The clash led to fatalities on both sides, including members of the vigilante group and the assailants. Civilians from Sabuwar Sara village were also killed as they tried to flee the scene.
“Following the report, tactical operatives were immediately deployed to the area where several bodies were recovered,” Wakil said. “Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased include local security volunteers and innocent civilians who were mercilessly gunned down while escaping the attack.”
Commissioner Aliyu later visited the scene to assess the situation firsthand and assured the affected communities that efforts were underway to restore calm and security. He condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as a heinous crime and a serious threat to public peace.
He further assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
